Ireland for the Test

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is what you need to know about Ireland.

1. Ireland was originally under British rule.
2. Ireland gained independence from England in 1921

1. The Potato Famine happened in 1840.
2. The famine caused millions of people to flee to the U.S. and other countries.

1. In 1990 Ireland elected their first woman President Mary Robinson.
2. Ireland's government consists of three major components:
A. President-elected and has ceremonial duties
B. Parliament-elected and makes the laws
C. Prime Minister-appointed by Parliament and leads the government
Language and Culture
1. English is spoken in Ireland, but Gaelic is also spoken is some parts.
2. 90% of the country is Roman Catholic
3. Hurling is an old Irish sport still played today.
4. Ireland is known for it's castles, churches, and other historical sites.

  3. I haven't skated in a while but I might get out there soon. I am sure that you both will do well on the test. When we study and prepare it is then that we have a true measure of what we have learned. Have a great test!
