"Little Rooms" Project

Hello Students and Parents,

We are now embarking on a journey into the microscopic world of the Animal and Plant cells. Each student is to provide a 3-D model of either a plant cell or animal cell. The project is due on Thursday October 20th. If you click on the word RUBRIC, which you just read, you should find the requirements for the project.

Also this project is going to be graded on a 50 point system and will include the following topics.

Tuesday September 27th Unit 1 Test

Hello Students and Parents,

Tuesday we are having our first Unit Test on Tuesday. Please make sure you are studying and preparing yourself for the big day. For that Tuesday you will only need a number #2 pencil and an eraser for changing your answer. Also please bring a book to read in case you finish the test early.

I usually use this blog to sometimes give out extra credit. So here we go. Please do the following to earn a 2% extra credit on your test for Tuesday.

Sharkwood 2011

Hello Students and Parents,

As I mentioned in class, the Sharkwood Project will be made up of three grades. The First Grade will be the Research Grade which will be due on Thursday April 21st by the end of the day. You may email your work to me at mateo.garcia@browardschools.com.

The Research portion should include the following questions in your research.

1. What makes your shark unique?
2. What is the anatomy of your shark? (All the systems of the body.)
3. What is the habitat of your shark? (What is the type of water it lives in?)
4. What is the life expectancy of your shark? (Diseases, Predators, and population)
5. What is the Evolutionist's view of your shark? (origin etc.)
6. What is the Creationist's view of your shark? (origin etc.)
7. What is the diet of your shark?
8. Where does your shark live? (Migration routes)

Also don't forget all of your resources that you use need to be cited with a bibliography.

I hope you were able to get all of your shopping done by now as it will get busy and crazy as Christmas gets closer. Tuesday we will be having a quiz on the rules and procedures of the classroom. In preparation for that quiz I am giving extra credit for those students who post the classroom rules on the blog. I will give you a pass from the quiz on Tuesday and an A for the quiz as well.

The first student from each class period who correctly posts the classroom rules on the blog will receive the A for the quiz and will not have to take the quiz on Tuesday. Please post your name, class period, and the classroom rules on the blog.

A good hypothesis consists of two things.

Volume of an irregular object can be measured in a graduated cylinder.
Volume: 1ml = 1cm3 (This is 1 milliliter = 1 centimeter cubed)

Extra Credit Assignment DUE 3.19.2010

Hello again parents and students,

Here is the description of the Extra Credit assignment. You should have all received a pinkish paper of the description but here is another communication of the assignment.

This is a Video project and it should be turned in on March 19th 2010, not later. It is a promotional video for any country in the world. It can be a single person project or a group project. You may make a commercial, short film, documentary, music video, etc.

Be as Creative as you can. The more your video project is original to you the better. You may use other artist's work but you MUST give them credit.

It needs to be at least 3 minutes long. That means it can be longer than 3 minutes but it has to be 3 minutes or it will be deducted points. Below you will find a short video to give you ideas of what I am expecting but I am sure your projects will be much better than mine is!

GRADING:
You will be graded on four categories:
Originality: Did you come up with the idea yourself and how creative were you?
Factual: Did you provide information about the country that is true?
Organized: Is your project well organized, well planned, and executed?
Appropriate: Were you respectful to the country you presented and your audience?

Last Note: Please make sure that your credits are similar to a movie so that all who were involved are given credit and also that you give credit to any professionals from whom you use their work. Thank you very much and have fun with it.

Ireland for the Test

This is what you need to know about Ireland.

1. Ireland was originally under British rule.
2. Ireland gained independence from England in 1921

1. The Potato Famine happened in 1840.
2. The famine caused millions of people to flee to the U.S. and other countries.

1. In 1990 Ireland elected their first woman President Mary Robinson.
2. Ireland's government consists of three major components:
A. President-elected and has ceremonial duties
B. Parliament-elected and makes the laws
C. Prime Minister-appointed by Parliament and leads the government
Language and Culture
1. English is spoken in Ireland, but Gaelic is also spoken is some parts.
2. 90% of the country is Roman Catholic
3. Hurling is an old Irish sport still played today.
4. Ireland is known for it's castles, churches, and other historical sites.

Chapter 13 Section 2 notes

Hello Class,

Here are the notes on Section 2 I would like you to have for the test.

These can all be found on pages 278-281.

1. The Normans (from Northern France) conquered England in 1066.

2. England became a world power in the late 1500's.

3. In the 1600's the English began establishing colonies around the world.

4. By the early 1800's England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland were united into one kingdom.

5. By 1900 the British Empire covered nearly one fourth (1/4) of the world's land area.

6. The United Kingdom is a leading member of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

7. The U.K.'s form of government is called a constitutional monarchy. They have a monarch- a king or queen, a parliament, and a prime minister.

8. William Shakespeare is a famous writer from the late 1500's-1616.

9. The 1960's brought about the famous Beatles.

10. Know what a Glen is.

Hello Students,

I hope you found the Chapter 12 Test to be an easier test than you thought because you studied. Please let me know what you thought about the test. The first person from each class to make a comment on this blog about the test will receive a homework pass. This opportunity expires after one person from each class comments about the test so please hurry and make your comments soon.

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all in bed at this time. As you can read I am not. Today we will be going over Chapter 11 Section 4. We will also be making a map of one of the four countries. This will be for homework if it is not finished in class.

Map of Country Assignment:
Please choose one of the four countries Portugal, Spain, Italy, or Greece. Make a map of the country on an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of computer paper and put the capital and major cities on the map. Also please add any significant geographical components to the map such as mountain ranges, rivers, straits, estuaries, etc. Color the map and write a two paragraph description of the country of your choice.
