Here are the notes on Section 2 I would like you to have for the test.
These can all be found on pages 278-281.
1. The Normans (from Northern France) conquered England in 1066.
2. England became a world power in the late 1500's.
3. In the 1600's the English began establishing colonies around the world.
4. By the early 1800's England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland were united into one kingdom.
5. By 1900 the British Empire covered nearly one fourth (1/4) of the world's land area.
6. The United Kingdom is a leading member of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
7. The U.K.'s form of government is called a constitutional monarchy. They have a monarch- a king or queen, a parliament, and a prime minister.
8. William Shakespeare is a famous writer from the late 1500's-1616.
9. The 1960's brought about the famous Beatles.
10. Know what a Glen is.
